Support of historical and cultural heritage of the Jews in Ukraine
On 23rd of January, Oleg Vyshniakov, the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel in Western Ukraine, held an informal meeting with Iosif Zissels, the President of the Association of Jewish Organizations and Communities (Vaad) of Ukraine, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights and Leonid Finberg, the director of the Center of historical and cultural studies of the East European Jews.
Mr. Zissels elaborated on the activities of the Association: publication of educational literature on Jewish Studies, a program on restoration of architectural monuments such as synagogues and Jewish Communities’ buildings, an analytical program for anti-Semitism monitoring in Ukraine etc. The Honorary Consul promised all possible assistance in supporting educational programs. In particular, a possibility of grants providing for students who study Judaica and assist in storyboarding was discussed during the conversation with Mr. Finberg.
During the meeting, it was decided to create a virtual museum of Jewish settlements in Ukraine. It will contribute to the preservation and development of knowledge on historical and cultural heritage of Jews.
