Israeli and Ukrainian cities will become sworn brothers
One of the issues that were discussed between Mr. Vyshniakov, the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel in Western Ukraine, and Mr. Elkin, the Head of the Committee of Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense was that Israeli and Ukrainian cities will become sworn brothers. Informal meeting between the Honorary Consul and the Head of the Committee was held on 30th of January during the visit of Mr. Vyshniakov to Israel.
Mr. Vyshniakov and Mr. Elkin discussed the necessity of cooperation between the Israeli and Ukrainian cities in educational and security. The Honorary Consul stressed the need of organizing a tour for rectors from Western Ukraine Universities to Universities of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Ariel in order to share the experience and develop joint projects. Israeli experience in the field of security and education is important and topical for Ukraine, according to politicians. Mr. Elkin promised to support the initiative of the Honorary Consul.
After the meeting, Mr. Vyshniakov presented Mr. Elkin the catalogue “The input of those born in Ukraine into the creation of the state of Israel. Ukrainian land of Eretz- Yisrael-Israel”. It was published with the help and support of the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine and the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel in Western Ukraine. This unique project is dedicated to people of Ukrainian descent, who played an important role in the creation of the State of Israel. Presidents and prime ministers, politicians and Zionist leaders, scientists and artists, such as Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, Ephraim Katzir, Levi Eshkol, Golda Meir, Moshe Sharett were born in Ukraine and made an invaluable contribution to the development of Israel. The catalogue tells us about almost a hundred of people, and it is only a small part of common Ukrainian-Israeli history.
During its existence, the State of Israel has been fighting for safety and freedom of its citizens. Over the years, Israel has gained invaluable experience in counter-terror, community outreach, and safety educational programs. According to the Honorary Consul, the transfer of this experience is a task of prime importance in current relations between Ukraine and Israel.
