Israeli psychologists assist in psychological rehabilitation of the ATO victims

Yet another training on psychotrauma delivered by Israeli Coalition of trauma specialists took place in conference hall of Cosmopolite hotel on 11 – 14 of June.

Such trainings are being held since last November with the assistance of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Ukraine, Oleg Vyshniakov, the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel in Western Ukraine, Iryna Sysoyenko, member of the parliament and American Jewish Committee “Joint”.

Ukrainian psychologists, social workers, volunteers and everybody who works with the ATO victims had an opportunity to attend a course of study on psychological rehabilitation. Training was aimed not only at the military but also at internally displaced persons, families of the ATO soldiers and children, the most vulnerable social group.

Invited trainers:

Gershanoff Alexander – a specialist in trauma, coordinator of Israel crisis management center. Mr. Gershanoff has great experience in organizing and rendering psychological and social assistance to families of the bereaved. Together with his colleagues Alexander works with people during waging operations. They organize support groups in beaten areas, remain in these areas and act during direct hits into buildings.

Alex Malyar – psychotherapist of B’nei Zion hospital (Rothschild), representative of Israeli Coalition of trauma.

A four-day course of seminars was dedicated to psychotrauma symptoms detection and so-called “fading”. Training participants received information on first aid for acute trauma reactions, got practical skills in multilevel relief aid.

Training guests:

Itskhak Karmel Kagan – the Deputy of the Ambassador of Israel in Ukraine: “Such trainings and seminars are very important for the Embassy of the State of Israel because they give possibility to share and develop survival skills and health maintenance during stress. Ukraine is in the high light of international attention but I think that future development depends on the ability to survive all the miseries and to come back to normal life. It is possible to say that we make our small contribution to the future”.

Oleg Vyshniakov, the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel in Western Ukraine: “Israel is the country that has been in the state of war during almost all of its history. This country has great experience working on psychological rehabilitation for the war victims. For each type of psychological trauma there is a certain problem solving procedure.

On my point of view we should promote sharing the experience with Ukrainian colleagues by all means. Psychological rehabilitation and aid after atrocities of war and possibility to come back to normal life – are the most important tasks of the country. The Embassy of the State of Israel and the Honorary Consulate will facilitate and support such programs in every possible way.
